must read:Why God Is Punishing Nigeria With Bad Leaders

The bad leadership being witnessed in Nigeria at the moment is the direct consequence of the disobedience of Nigerians, both followers and prospective leaders, to God, the Chief Missioner of Ansar-ur-deen Society of Nigeria, Sheikh Abd’Rahman Ahmad, has said.
Sheikh Ahmad, who was the guest lecturer at the Prayer for the Nation 2015 organised by the Fatima Charity Foundation in Lagos, said the country has reached that saturation point where the people would begin to yearn for a change in government.
He said Nigerians should know that they share a major part of the blames for distancing themselves from God.
Speaking on the topic: ‘Committing Nigeria To The Hands Of God: What Are The Roles Of The Leadership And The Citizenry?’ he told the crowd at the Muson Centre, Onikan, Lagos venue of the event that, apart from turning away from God, people now believe and trust men like them and have succeeded in turning such men into their gods.
Imam Abdulrahman Ahmad
Stressing that a society gets the kind of leader it deserves, he wondered how a country’s leader would declare before the whole world that stealing is not corruption.
President Goodluck Jonathan had in one of his media chat explained that most of the offences Nigerians call corruption are petty stealing.
Ahmad said because of bad leadership, Nigeria remains one of the poorest despite having the same crude oil with which many other leaders have turned their countries around.
“When we talk about the leadership of a country handing the country over to God, we are essentially talking about good governance.
“And good governance is inclusive, and the electoral system is fair; and we talk about generating employment, having justice and equity for all, we are talking about a technique for peaceful change…you are there, they don’t want you, then go because there is nothing you can do about it,” he said.
He recalled how the late Tafawa Balewa once travelled to the United States of America and received an ovation after addressing the country’s lawmakers, but wondered why we now have a President who is far behind many world leaders.
He asked Nigerians to search their conscience and discover where they have offended God before accusing the leaders who have also offended God.
He noted that nowadays, there is mutual distrust between the leaders and the followers.
“We now see every politician as traders, big business people, they campaign for our votes not to govern us but to loot treasury. But some are only better than others.
“For some, there are things to show for governance. For others, there is absolutely nothing to show. What do we have to show when we were better 20 years ago than the way we are now?
“We don’t trust our governments neither do they care for us. When Allah intends to punish people for their inequity, He appoints for them bad leaders.
“This is the situation today. There is impunity and this has been elevated to state craft.
“Somebody said stealing is not corruption. I don’t know who said it but I think this is the thinking in high places.
“And he said somebody ‘stole money that cannot buy a Peugeot and they put him in prison; how much is the money that they are putting the person in prison?’
“This is what we have become. Today, there are no jobs, people are suffering, they are ready to work, but no food to eat.”
He lamented that the politicians for whom the message and prayers are meant for were not present at the event and reminded the people that they should always remember they have the power to pick their leaders and that their destinies were in their hands.
Hajia Bintu-Fatima Tinubu, President of the foundation, said the state of the nation called for prayers, charity and empowerment.
“We are very much aware of the many problems that have plagued the Nigerian nation which include insecurity, corruption and general fall in the standard of morality.
“And if Nigeria is to fulfil her God-given mandate, we need to find urgent solutions to these innumerable problems confronting our nation,” she said, adding that the foundation was none-partisan, but urged Nigerians to ensure that they participate in this year’s elections. He said the country, despite its huge human and natural resources, has achieved only little, resulting in growing impatience while the country’s value system has continued to crash and “true federalism has remained an illusion and development at all levels has continued to elude us.”
She said it was important for the country to go closer to God in prayers “to remove unemployment, poverty, disease, hunger, ignorance, misgovernance, kidnapping, insurgency, tribalism, moral decadence, drug abuse, rape, religious intolerance, poor infrastructure, victimisation, election rigging among others.”

THE END:Man Kills Brother Over Soup

The police in Benin have arrested a 57-year-old man, Sunday Osemwekhe, for allegedly killing his half-brother with machete over a local soup called owoh.
The suspect reportedly committed the crime at Evboesi community in Orhionmwon Local Government area of the state.
The incident happened during an argument with the victim over owoh soup, a local a delicacy for eating yam, plantain and wheat peculiar to the people of Edo State.
Osemwekhe, who confessed to the crime when he was paraded with 80 other suspects by the Edo State Commissioner of Police, Mr. Foluso Adebanjo, said the deceased took from his owoh soup without his permission.
The argument reportedly degenerated into fracas, following which he cut off the victim’s hand with a machete.
The victim allegedly died a few days after from injuries he sustained from the attack.
Adebanjo disclosed that the suspect would be charged to court at the conclusion of investigation.

Prof. Yemi Osinbajo, said:We will run a transparent government,

Prof. Yemi Osinbajo, the Vice-Presidential Candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC), on Thursday promised a transparent government, if the party was voted into power.
Osinbajo gave the pledge in Lagos at the conferment of the Gani Fawehinmi Integrity award on him by the Ikeja Branch of the Nigerian Bar Association (NBA).
He was honoured alongside the late lawyer and human rights activist, Mr Bamidele Aturu, who died on July 9, 2014.
NAN reports that the award was part of activities marking the 11th Chief Gani Fawehinmi Annual Lecture.
The lecture was entitled, “Ethnicity, Religion, Illiteracy: Promises and Illusions of Democracy in the Struggle to Uplift the Masses from Impoverishment.”
Osinbajo said he agreed to serve as retired Gen. Muhammadu Buhari’s running mate because of his conviction that Nigeria needed a positive change to save the future of the country.
“I make a pledge that our administration will be committed to transparency and the good of the Nigerian nation.
“I strongly believe that if we cannot do that it will be very difficult for Nigeria to get out of this ‘present mess’,” he said.
According to him, Nigerians are yearning for transparent leadership because a lot of things have gone wrong with country.
He said: “There is no doubt that the Nigerian people are looking for transparent leadership. This is not a contest about ethnicity or religion and it cannot be.”
Osinbajo likened running the affairs of the country to a football team where only the best persons should be picked to guarantee winning.
“What we ought to be doing if we want to win as a nation is to choose those who will represent us best, irrespective of ethnicity and religion.”
The chairman of the occasion and former Catholic Archbishop of Lagos, Anthony Cardinal Okogie said Fawehinmi lived his life fighting for a better Nigeria.
He said that Fawehinmi must be “terribly worried’’ today about the political and economic atmosphere in the country.
“Gani would be saddened that at this age and time, Nigeria is still playing politics of religion and ethnicity when the primary concern should be capability,” Okogie said.
According to him, Nigerians need civic education in order to be properly informed to think and act right.
He said: “This is the time we must play politics of the best, for the best position in order to guarantee the best for our nation.
“Let only those with the fear of God and love of their neighbours rule Nigeria; only those who know what to do should sit at the helm of affairs.”
Delivering his lecture, a Muslim cleric, Dr Saheed Timehin, noted that Nigerians were among the most religious people in the world.
He said that politics should not, however, be about religion.
According to him, Christianity, Islam and African traditional religion, all promote values and social justice which have been eroded in Nigeria by politicians.
Timehin said: “As 2015 general elections draw near people are being implored again in some places of worship to vote along religious line. It is sad that Nigerians hardly learn from history.
“Rather than emphasising on good governance and service delivery, they subscribe to the same old cults of mediocrity that brought the nation to where it is at the moment.”
Earlier in his welcome address, the branch Chairman, Mr Yinka Farounbi, said Fawehinmi, was being remembered and celebrated because of his immense contributions to the legal profession.
Farounbi said the award recipients were selected after a vigorous and painstaking search as men who exemplified very high integrity.

Nigerien army soldiers from the 322nd Parachute Regiment practice field tactics during combat training
Several dozen people suspected of having links to Nigeria’s Boko Haram have been arrested in southern Niger since the start of cross-border attacks by the Islamist group a week ago, a local governor said.
“In the region of Zinder, we have a few dozen people whom we arrested for checking. They are suspects,” Kalla Moutari told AFP in an interview late Saturday, adding that they were citizens of Niger.
The suspects were sent to an “anti-terrorist unit” in the capital Niamey, Moutari said.
Boko Haram launched a series of cross-border attacks in Niger’s remote Diffa area on February 6.
The region is across the border from northeastern Nigeria, the Boko Haram stronghold.
The suspects were arrested at checkpoints on access roads into Zinder, Niger’s second largest city some 400 kilometres (250 miles) west of Diffa, the governor said.
He said some 10,000 people had fled the violence in Diffa to Zinder, and that the checkpoints allowed authorities “to intercept those who had infiltrated the displaced people.”

The use of female suicide bombers has become a trend. About three days ago, A female suicide bomber was said to been responsible for the attack.
Bus parks have been among the sect’s preferred targets through its six-year uprising aimed at creating a hardline Islamic state in the north.

20 Bayelsa Women Burnt To Death After Visiting First Lady

About 20 women from Bayelsa State were yesterday burnt to death in a multiple accident after visiting the first lady Dame Patience Jonathan.
It was gathered last night that the accident occurred at Ahoada, in Rivers State. It was said to have involved a Toyota Sienna car, jeep and a bus with an inscription, Peoples Democratic Party Women Initiative.
A security source put the number of burnt victims at 20 adding that all the occupants of the bus perished.
The source who spoke in confidence said: “The affected women were travelling in the bus which went up in flames. They were burnt to ashes. Only one of the women was rescued.”
It was learnt that the women paid a solidarity visit to the first lady in Okirika where they spent two days.
The Bayelsa State Sector Commander, Federal Road Safety Commission (FRSC), Mr. Vincent Jack confirmed the accident.
He, however, said only nine persons burnt to death, two died without been burnt while many others were rushed to Madonna clinic in the area.
He explained that the accident occurred when the tyre of the Toyota Sienna burst and rammed into the bus carrying the women.
He said the jeep also rammed into the bus in confusion, a situation that made the bus to go up in flames.

Jonathan Seeks US Help To Fight Against Boko Haram

Nigeria’s President Goodluck Jonathan appealed for more US help in fighting Boko Haram, as the Islamists struck again on Saturday and called for a boycott of upcoming general elections.
The head of state for the first time claimed direct links between the Sunni radicals who have been waging a six-year insurgency in Nigeria and the Islamic State group in Syria and Iraq.
He told the Wall Street Journal in an interview: “Are they (the United States) not fighting ISIS? Why can’t they come to Nigeria?
“They are our friends. If Nigeria has a problem, then I expect the US to come and assist us.”
But Pentagon spokesman Rear Admiral John Kirby said there are no plans to send US troops to Nigeria.
“I can tell you that there are no plans as I speak here to send unilaterally, to send or to add US troops into Nigeria. There are no US troops operating in Nigeria,” he told reporters.
Kirby said the United States was in the early phases of helping establish a multi-national task force of African nations to help Nigeria defeat Boko Haram.
Jonathan’s comments were published as hundreds of Islamist fighters invaded the northeastern city of Gombe, firing heavy guns and throwing leaflets calling for locals to shun the elections.
The attack, which began at about 9:00 am (0800 GMT), saw residents flee and the authorities impose a 24-hour lock-down in the city, which Boko Haram has repeatedly targeted.
Boko Haram has opened up two new fronts in its campaign to create a hardline Islamic state in northeast Nigeria, pushing into neighbouring Niger last week and for the first time on Friday, Chad.
It has also increased the frequency and intensity of its attacks on northern Cameroon. The increasing regional threat has led to the deployment of troops from all three countries, reflecting security fears.
Jonathan and his government have long sought to portray, the insurgency as being fuelled by outside forces and he has previously called Boko Haram “Al-Qaeda in west Africa”.
Critics have interpreted his attempt to blame foreigners for the violence that has left more than 13,000 dead and displaced more than one million since 2009 as a diversion from national failings.
Boko Haram, which loosely translates from the Hausa language widely spoken in northern Nigeria as “Western education is forbidden”, started out in 2002 as a largely peaceful Islamist movement.
But it has been transformed in the last six years from a rag-tag group of guerrilla fighters into a conventional army, seizing territory and dozens of towns in three northeast Nigerian states.
The group has generally not been thought to have any direct operational links with overseas jihadis, although some fighters may have received training from Al-Qaeda-linked militants in north Africa.
Boko Haram leader Abubakar Shekau has previously mentioned IS group leader Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi in videos but has not pledged allegiance to the outfit.
The Nigerian group’s tactics of extreme violence and mass casualty hit-and-run raids, bombings and suicide attacks also predated those carried out by the IS group.
But Jonathan told the US newspaper that Nigeria had intelligence reports that Boko Haram was receiving “training and funds” from IS militants. But Jonathan told the US newspaper that Nigeria had intelligence reports that Boko Haram was receiving “training and funds” from IS militants.
Any direct US military intervention would constitute a marked shift in Nigeria’s attitude towards the conflict. It has repeatedly insisted that it can take on the militants alone.
The United States has provided surveillance and intelligence specialists, as well as aerial drones, to help in the high-profile hunt for 219 schoolgirls kidnapped by Boko Haram last April.
But bilateral ties have since been fraught over Washington’s refusal to provide military hardware because of concerns about human rights abuses in the Nigerian army.
The latest attack in Gombe, south of Boko Haram’s centre of operations, coincided with the original date for presidential elections, at which Jonathan is seeking a second four-year term.
The vote was postponed last Saturday after the electoral commission was advised that regional forces needed more time to tackle the insurgents and would not be able to provide security on polling day.
But the six-week deadline to effectively secure and stabilise the northeast and allow hundreds of thousands of people displaced by the violence to vote has been seen as unrealistic.
Jonathan on Friday maintained that postponing the elections until March 28 would give the security agencies time to “clean up” the three states worst hit by the insurgency for voting to take place.

Obasanjo’s Unwarranted Attack On President Jonathan Is Odious, Repugnant & Self-Serving

The Special Adviser to the President on Media and Publicity, Reuben Abati has released a press statement this evening concerning the way a former president, Olusegun Obasanjo has been condemning the sitting president lately. Below is the statement sent in from the State House.
We find the false claims and allegations reportedly made against President Goodluck Jonathan by Chief Olusegun Obasanjo on Saturday in Abeokuta very odious and repugnant.
As we have had cause to say before, it is most regrettable indeed that a man like Chief Obasanjo, who should know better, chooses to repeatedly, wantonly, and maliciously impugn the integrity of a sitting President of his country for the primary purpose of self-promotion.
It is obvious from Chief Obasanjo’s serial vituperations against President Jonathan who is doing his best to positively transform Nigeria for the benefit of all of its people that he has willfully chosen to close his eyes to the present administration’s good works and intentions. For reasons best known to him, Chief Obasanjo has set his mind on regime change by fair or foul means.
Otherwise, it would be completely senseless, irrational and out of place for Chief Obasanjo, who still claims to belong to the same party as the President, to accuse President Jonathan of plotting to win the rescheduled presidential elections by “hook or crook” and planning to plunge the nation into crisis if he loses the election.
For the record, President Jonathan has no such intention and will continue to give the greatest possible support to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) and other relevant federal agencies to ensure that the rescheduled elections are successfully conducted.
Indeed, it is not President Jonathan who remains faithful to his oath of office who is trying to plunge Nigeria into crisis, but Chief Obasanjo who is scheming to plunge the country into chaos in pursuit of a selfish and highly egocentric agenda.
Chief Obasanjo’s plot with others within and outside the country to thwart the general elections and foist an unconstitutional Interim National Government, which he hopes to head on the nation is well known to us, but by the Grace of God Almighty, his odious plan to return to power through the back door will fail woefully.
We know very well that it is in pursuit of this nefarious plot that the former President continues to sow the seeds of discord and crises in the polity by purporting to remain in the ruling party while openly consorting with the opposition, endorsing its candidates and predicting victory for opposition candidates in a manner most unbecoming of a supposed elder statesman.
Thankfully, the vast majority of Nigerians who are patriotic and right-thinking cannot be fooled by Chief Obasanjo’s antics.
We urge them to be assured that President Jonathan’s commitment to democracy in all its ramifications remains constant and that he will never be party to the use of any unlawful means to remain in office or gain political advantage over his opponents.
The President stands by his commitment, which he reaffirmed on national television last Wednesday that on his watch, all elections in Nigeria, will be free, fair and credible, and that all certified election results will be respected.
As President Jonathan has also assured the nation, the rescheduling of the general elections was in the best interest of the nation and was never driven by any ulterior motive on the part of government as Chief Obasanjo and others have alleged.
President Jonathan will continue to put his best efforts into giving Nigeria quality leadership and will not be distracted from his purpose by unwarranted and needless criticism by persons who ought to know better.
The President also continues to trust in the good judgment of Nigerians and to believe that in appreciation of his sincere efforts to move the country forward over the past four years, they will re-elect him for a second term on March 28, 2015 with a mandate to pursue his agenda for national transformation to a successful conclusion.Reuben Abati

Ekiti Audio Leaked Tape Not Real – Goodluck Jonathan

President Goodluck Jonathan’s interview with Wall Street Journal in which he mentioned that the United States should step into the situation of insurgency plaguing the North.
While speaking, Goodluck Jonathan stated that he found no reason to probe anyone whether Nigeria’s Democracy had been contravened.
The opposition claimed the military had been tilted to rig the election but the President feels nothing of such happened as he believes the stories are cooked up… This can be found just at the tail end of the article on Wall Street Journal
… Meanwhile, Mr. Jonathan’s other problems are mounting. The tumbling price of oil has been a shock for this nation, whose government gets 80% of its revenue from crude exports, and saved very little of that money under his watch. On Wednesday, the country’s currency, the naira, hit a record low. Some civil servants have gone unpaid.
Against that backdrop, the president said he was counting on votes from rural Nigeria, where access to fertilizer has become easier under his watch.
“Yes people in the city vote, they make so much noise, but the bulk of the voters come from the countryside,” he said. “For you to know whether I win this election or not, go interview the farmers.”
Mr. Jonathan dismissed other frequently mentioned public concerns. Reports of corruption in the military were exaggerated, as were human-rights abuses, he said. There were few immediate actions needed to clean up the petroleum sector.
The opposition has accused his military of tilting the election his way. Last week, an opposition-leaning website published an audio recording of several military leaders allegedly conspiring to rig a governor’s election that took place in November 2014.
A U.S.-based voice-verification firm, Guardian Consulting LLC, confirmed the authenticity of the tape to a 95% accuracy rate.
Mr. Jonathan said he saw no reason to probe whether Nigeria’s democracy had been contravened. “It’s all fabrications,” he said of the audio. “Why should I investigate things that are not real?”
“It’s very sad,” said Kayode Fayemi, the incumbent who lost that election. “The military has lost any democratic control.”
Concerning the 1.5 million people uprooted by BokoHaram, Mr. Jonathan said the government had provided them with enough funding.
“Whenever you have so many people who are displaced there must be stories,” he said. “Even in our small families, some children get hungry sometimes, but that doesn’t mean you’ve not been feeding them.”

Woman Rapes 3 Yr Old Son After Having Sex with Family Dog

A woman has been arrested for performing a sex act on her three-year-old son and was also filmed on camera having sexual intercourse with a dog.
Angeline Lodice was indicted on Thursday and faces life in prison, but she will appeal against the charges, claiming that she is not guilty because she is insane.
The 26-year-old is accused of sexual battery, aggravated rape, beastilty and production of child pornography.
Police arrested her after seeing footage of Lodice performing a sex act on the three-year-old victim which leaked after thieves burgled her home and stole her laptop. The shocked thieves anonymously forwarded the videos to police.
If experts do find her to be insane, she will be sent to a mental hospital indefinitely.

Channel TV: Elections Postponement Is Jonathan’s Grand Plan To Win – Obasanjo

The former President made the statement on Saturday in Abeokuta, the Ogun State capital, while speaking on the state of the nation and giving his opinion on the election postponement.
He, however, appealed to politicians in Nigeria to ensure that peace and tranquillity reigned supreme.
The former President also asked President Jonathan not to consider the removal of the chairman of the INEC, Professor Attairu Jega, as the decision may truncate the nation’s fledging democracy.
Forcing Elections Postponement Obasanjo further accused the President of forcing the elections postponement on the INEC, a situation he said was designed to make him win by all means possible and if not create chaos and confusion in the country.
The former president, who was the nation’s military leader from 13 February 1976 to 1 October 1979 and a democratically elected president from 29 May 1999 to 29 May 2007 , further expressed pessimism on the possibilities of achieving success in the ongoing fight against Boko Haram by the Nigerian military and other allied forces. He urged the leadership of the ruling Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and the All Progressives Party (APC) to ensure that the nation’s democracy remains intact.
